Regular participles

  • They are used with the auxiliary verbs ter ou haver;

  • They don't agree in person and number with the subject, which means they should remain in the masculine singular;

  • Most verbs in the language only have regular participles.

 

Do you remember how to form participles in Portuguese?

  • Verbs of the 1st conjugation => drop the -ar ending then add ado:

comprar => comprado

lavar => lavado

  • Verbs of the 2nd conjugation => drop the -er ending then add ido:

vender => vendido

comer => comido

  • Verbs of the 3rd conjugation => verbs drop the -ir ending then add ido:

ferir => ferido

sentir => sentido
