Manipur - 'The Little Paradise on Earth' - an oval shaped valley, surrounded by blue hills, with an exquisite natural beauty and splendour, shines in the extreme North Eastern Corner of India with Myanmar on the east, Nagaland on the north, Assam on the west and Mizoram on the south. Imphal is the State Capital. After the independence of India in 1947, the Princely State of Manipur was merged in the Indian Union on 15.10.1949. It became a full fledged Indian State since 21st January, 1972 with a Legislative Assembly of 60 seats and three members in the Indian National Parliament. Manipur has its own language and script. The Polo game is  originated from Manipur. 

World Famous Manipuri Raas Dance  is  one of the six forms of Indian Classical Dances. Rajashree Bhaigyachandra laid foundation of this dance style, when he organize the Maha Raas in his Royal Premises with his daughter Shija Lairoibi, playing the role of Radha. It is highly decorative and graceful. The dancers uses the movements of their hands decoratively rather than symbolically. It was popularised throughout India, in the 20th century by the  poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Fresh Water Lake  'The Loktak' [104 sq km] The Reknown Manipuri Pung - Cholom

The Loktak Lake, with an area of about 104 sq km, is the largest natural freshwater lake in North-East India. Thick floating mats of weeds covered with soil, called 'phumdis', are one of the  characteristic features of this lake. Keibul Lamjao National Park, habitat of the brow antlered deer - Cervus eldi eldi, locally known as 'Sangai', is located in the south-east area of this lake. 

The blue hills of Manipur [5,000 ft ASL]; are cloaked with dense forests of teak, bamboo, oak and pine with an area of 15,154 sq km. Average max &  min temps of Manipur are 22 & 15 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 1,650 mm. Blessed with a pleasant climate, distinctive cultural pattern and evergreen scenic beauty, Manipur is a fascinating destination for discerning tourists. This little paradise on earth cordially inviting visitors all the time. 

Lilieum macklinae, locally known as Shiroi Lily, the State flower is a rare and endangered species. It is found only in Shiroi Peak of Manipur. The height of the plant is between 1 to 3 ft. It is a seasonal flower, blooming during May & June.  It won the prestigious merit prize of the 1948 Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show in London
