who's runnin' the amplifiers back here anyhow:   This is a conglomeration of pared-down images, elevated to the status of importance by their placement on nice photographic paper. In the white cube the images glorify the everyday-yet some of these captured moments are fantastic. Portrayed in a living room wall style, they reference someone's collection of meaningful fragments of life. Using photography is perhaps a way to incorporate the contemporary styles and atmosphere that are absent from my paintings. Where painting necessitates the preconception and arrangement of ideals, this photography is spontaneous, loose, and subject to the world around me. It is refreshing to know one can use life as it is, comparatively unmanipulated in this digital era, to make art. In general my photographs lack a strong concept; I merely tried to match the camera to my cynical eye, riding on intuition. Not fully documentations, they are interpretations, incomplete records.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I paint the nude figure because it compels me. The body is a subject that requires extreme sensitivity and keen observation, demanding that one connect the eye to the hand. I use dark line, crusty texture and moody color to offer an alternative definition of beauty in my paintings. Threaded throughout both these colored gestures and photographic prints is an underlying darkness. Beauty, to me, is not a pretty picture with a pleasing subject. Rather the dark and tragic attract and intrigue me.
