| Welcome Letter, English II | ||||||||
| Dear Parent or Guardian: I would like to welcome you and your student to the 2003-2004 school year. As you know, tenth grade is a high-stakes year; your child will be faced with the challenge of passing the LEAP GEE 21 exam in both English and Math this coming spring. It is my duty to work, not only with your student, but also with you in ensuring that your student achieves a score of 'Basic' or better on his or her exit exam and fulfulls our academic objectives for the year. This school year, English II students will be required to read two novels at a total cost of $10. In the third six-weeks, we will be reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and in the final six-weeks we will read Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper. Please have your student bring in $10 by September 5th so that I may order the books for you at a discount. If your student does not pay by that date, you will need to purchase the book on your own. If you already have one or both of these books, you need not pay the fee. Students will be working out of the "Passing the LEAP GEE 21" workbook this year. We will have a class set, however, if you would like your student to have their own to write in and bring home, I will be happy to order one for you. Cost will be approximately $16. REQUIRED CLASS MATERIALS: ONE marble composition notebook (journal) ONE 5-subject notebook with folder pockets Loose-leaf Your student has received a detailed syllabus that we will work from for the school year, including all topics that will be covered, please look over it. A copy is also available on this website. Class currency this year will be Raiderbucks. For more information, click here. If you have questions during the school year, please make an appointment to see me; or call 410-543-2001 to leave a message. I have also set up an e-mail account for parent inquiries and homework questions at [email protected], which I will check at least three times a week. Furthur information about our class will be posted to this website regularly. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year! Sincerely, Miss Crutchfield |
