| June 15 2008: We are changing Ministries: In conplete agreement with NTM Mexico and our sending church, we have decided to switch ministries. This move came as a little of a shock to us, all along we had planned on following Jesus into an unreached tribe. Since about January however, we felt that God may have something else for us. This is not because we have problems with anyone in the mission, or because we think that NTM is doing anything wrong, we just had this feeling... Well, God arrianged for us to meet the directors of a discipleship ministry for Mexican College students, and we strongly felt God leading that direction. After prayer and seeking council and thinking through it all, we have decided to leave NTM and join EXUS. Our passion for the untold remains strong and we are asking God to use us in this new ministry to raise up more laborers to go to the end of the earth. Please be praying for our transition. There are about a million detials to take care of, and this kind of mass orginization really isn't my strong suit. Monday May 12th: Seems like we don't have much new to report. Spanish is still coming along. We have gotten a fairly good hold of past tense and are moving into Subjunctive. A tense that doesn't really exist in English, but is one of the main tenses in Spanish. Not being familar with the feel of this tense makes it hard to use well. But we'll get it. Tucker is running now, absolutely loves beans, and is speaking single words. So far his favorites are shoe, truck, and mas (spanish for more.) Next week we are off to Guadalajara to visit with a church down there and catch up with a pastor from a supporting church. We are excited to see what God is up to...how He is going to use this visit for His glory and work. Monday January 28th: Things are moving along fairly well. Spanish is progressing, and we are starting to feel 'at home' in our new country. Of course we still have ups and downs, and some days we think we'll never learn Spanish. We are moving out of present tense and trying to wrap our minds around the various past tenses. Spanish does some things that English does not and these tend to be hard to get used to. One example would be word order in a sentence. Let's work with the sentence "Mike gave the book to Karen." To replace the nouns with pronouns the same sentence would read: "He gave it to her." To put this same sentence into spanish it would read: "Se lo dio." To bring this sentince into a strict English translation it would read "To her it he gave" I thing gradually our minds are making the adjustment, but it has been work to get our minds to transition. We are enjoying our time helping at the orpahanage, though we are severely hampered by our lack of language. We are trusting Jesus to shine through where words cannot communicate. We have found a church close by our house and are reallly enjoying getting to know our brothers and sisters in Christ there. Tuck is a champ. He loves mexican food and is pure delight to have around. |
