Avoid doing this exercise so often that you cause any frostbite or friction damage. Relax or get a back rub. Then take an ice cube and rub it on the back of your neck, collarbone and shoulders. You may get a rush or shiver through your head. Relax and allow that rush to peak. As it begins to subside, think through that rush, some word, sentence or phrase. Substitute your chosen signal for words.
With the repetition of this exercise, you may be able to condition yourself so that you can use a stroke on the back of your neck as a trigger and do away with using the ice cube altogether. Further practice should allow you to move into the desired state of mind at will, without having to use a trigger at all.
Here is an example of a multi-part exercise using the rush like energy. Create a rush. Draw it toward your the front of your head or your heart. Allow it to collect by relaxing then flow smoothly to a target. Don't worry about this being a success. After the rush dissipates, drop or dissolve the “hard” feeling that forms in its place. Do this by relaxing and “opening” your mind to your surroundings. Then, think a signal, you should be open. Try simply thinking a buzzword at a loud conversational level. “Hey... Ho!” Relax immediately and dissolve the barrier. “Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, hey, hey...” Relax immediately, take a breath and dissolve the barrier. “Hey, Hey...”
After you can bring up a rush easily, begin doing this. Create a rush. Leave the static-like energy surrounding your head. As the energy discharges, imagine you are expanding the globe shaped “aura” that it is part of or represents. Stay relaxed and imagine that aura growing out until you can no longer keep hold of it or it begins to dissipate. Try to remain relaxed between generating the rush and allowing, following or even pushing the energy out from your head. Do not worry if you cannot stay relaxed, just relax quickly and keep going. Relax AS you feel the energy flow away from your head. Only a slight mental push, a connection or awareness really, is needed for this exercise. Strike up another rush and pulse your aura out. Repeat until you have difficulty bringing up a rush.
Elsewhere in this document I talk about “barriers.” This aura may be the barrier I talk about. It may naturally be a barrier because you are not used to working with it. It is invisible but made of some energy that may be the stuff you are working with when I mention forces of thought. It is like static you may be used to from a woolly hat. It may feel like the fuzzy feeling you get when your leg falls asleep, but not painful. It seems stronger closer to your head and body. It does not have to be a perfect globe shape, but imagine it is if you like. It may seem charged or like it is moving like slowly flowing warm water. Rather than simply picturing it there, relax and try to feel it like a tingle or warmth.
Imagine your head is surrounded in a globe or field of energy. Because you are not used to working with this energy, it may feel hard or feel like it is not there at all. Put your hands lightly on your hair and strike up a rush. Then lift your hands to about two inches away from your head and move them around comfortably, occasionally touching your hair. Through your scalp or with your head, try to feel your hand there and where it is. Do not complain "well I know where my hand is, I can move and feel it." Instead try to feel it with your head (or scalp.) While you remain relaxed, imagine the energy flowing onto your hands "charging" them. Try to feel a warmth going onto your hands, though they are a couple of inches away. Move your hands away to somewhere comfortable like your sides. Feel the static discharge as you move your thoughts/focus away. Remain relaxed and allow the energy to dissipate. Imagine or feel the energy building up and discharging each time. Repeat this a few times or until you can no longer bring up a rush.
Do an ice cube rush and allow the energy to flow away. Relax as you let the energy go. A “hard” feeling may form in its place. Try to think this feeling out of existence. You may do this by relaxing like you would after blinking your eyes. Blink your eyes once comfortably. After they open, mentally connect the fuzzy pressure in your eyeballs with the hard feeling now in your head. Draw this feeling down into your body, perhaps toward your stomach, or down from your eyes and out into the air. Use your imagination to break open the remaining feeling like splitting a sphere and opening it around your head. Keep opening or stay open and allow the energy that may flow in now to do so. Relax and feel yourself open to your surroundings. You should notice the “barrier” naturally re-form. You may be able to feel this. Practice staying open for longer periods of time while remaining relaxed. Later you may be able to dissolve your barrier or think it away directly.
After you have worked with aura expansion for some time, try this. Expand your aura to about a meter then try to contract or bring it back in toward your head. It will take a moment after you reverse direction to regain touch with the globe of energy. You may not actually be able to draw it inward at all. Instead, You may find yourself “opening” your aura at that point. Do not worry about it. Do either or both. Later, practice the idea of flexing or pulsing your aura without bothering to bring up a rush.
When you send out a pulse, it may grow out in a sphere or circle. Consider allowing it to flow away in front of you like you can see it though it will be invisible. By imagining it in front of you, you may be able to work with it more easily. Doing that you may be able to have it wash over onto another person you can see, live or in a recording, who I call your “receiver.” It will be like a wave not a blast of energy. To the receiver it will feeling like a passing tingle on the back of their neck or some part of their head or to some sense organ. It will flow smoothly away from your head, out through your eyes or forehead or even from your heart or entire body. You don't need to (or may not be able to) push it as it goes. More like, keep a light awareness of it as it moves away. Remain relaxed. Once you have opened, you should relax and try to open more. Keep a light but smooth control of your now open aura. At the same time, try to keep awareness of the energized feeling as you allow the wave to go out. FEEL the wave go out. Relax and allow it to flow smoothly away (toward your target) without straining to push or force it along.
Realize or believe me that at least at first the energy moves at its own rate like a wave coming into shore. You should imagine it moving at a comfortable pace but try to match your idea with what you feel. You may notice if you are pushing too hard or too fast or holding back too much by thinking of it moving too slowly. If you try to push it out in a globe or a circle, it may feel like “yeah I have something” when you are in sync with it or “I passed it or it flowed past” when you are not quite on it. Where you are thinking about is where your awareness is. The pulse will get stronger by you relaxing more and maintaining a calm controlled “open” feeling. Strength here may come through confidence and control rather than strain. It may help to develop a relaxed but controlled way of thinking. When your head is open you may feel like pushing with your heart or body. You don't have to push. It is OK if you do a little, but just relax then and let it go.
When you can do an ice cube rush using only the stroking on the back of your neck, start trying this. Do an ice cube rush. When or as the rush peaks, allow it to flow away (by relaxing) through your head or heart toward a target you can see or place. Try letting the energy the energy flow onto the head of a cooperative receiver.
