Mac Mods
Heaven Bound
The first thing that I did to my Mac was install a Johnson lever to the attachment point for the forestay.  I had had a great deal of trouble attaching my forestay on my Kells and I didn't want the same problem.  The lever gives me about 3" to play with when it is open and makes it a cinch to attach the forestay.  I had to raise the attachment of the forestay on the mast accordingly.  Some people put a lever on their backstay.  In retrospect, I probably should have done it that way.  I may change it eventually.
Since I raise the mast on my own, I also added a roller to my mast crutch.  I can be at the bow and take the mast back to the tabernacle with ease.  Just have to make sure the rigging doesn't get caught on anything.
I took a 2x4 and cut it to length to sup- port the mast at the tabernacle.  I cut a Vee so the mast would sit in it nicely and also had to cut it down to fit inside the bracket.  I drilled a hole so the bolt that holds the mast raising pole would hold the support at the same time.  I attached a small cleat and tacked a small line to the support to secure the mast to it while traveling.
This is my ballast blowing system.  Just a simple inflater that is attached to a brass fitting that I screwed into the air vent hole.  The plactic hose just happens to fit both the fitting and the inflater perfectly.  My inflater has its own battery, works off of AC or 12 volt.  I use its own battery until it gives out and then attach it to my 12-volt system to finish the job.  It is a little slow.  With a more powerful inflater I guess it would go faster.  The boat goes further up on the trailer easier with the tank emptied.
I looked at the after market rudder, but could not bring myself to spring for the $200+ to get it.  I saw where some had made their own rudders.  Some added to their rudders with wood and glass.  Then I read where one owner widened his rudder with aluminum.  I bought a piece for $15 and with a little effort got a fairly good bend on it.  Simply attached it with about 20 small stainless steel screws with ss washers.  Works great for me though I'm sure the foil shape is not as good as a professionally manufactured one.
I also have added sailslugs to my mainsail which I prefer to just a boltrope. (no pic) Though not a real mod, I also restretched my mainsail over the boltrope - very helpful to the sail shape!.
