THE 1960 CORVAIR COUPE-The first rear engined, air
cooled automobile ever produced in the United States. It was offered
in the two and four door models. Interior options were limited to bench
seats in vinyl and a rubber floor mat. The rear mounted engine was a horizontally
opposed six cylinder. At 145 cubic inches and only 80hp, it was intoduced
as a "compact economy car". Chevrolet was hoping it would be the
next "Volkswagen Beetle".
