Pre-instructional:
TSW sing �4 Layers of the Rainforest.�

TSW learn poem �Cricket.�
I�m taking home a little cricket.
I found him in a grassy thicket.
My cricket won�t sting,
But he loves to sing,
My cute little cricket I found in the thicket.

Procedure 1:
a. TSW predict what happens in The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle.
b. TTW read the story.
c. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Procedure 2:
a. TTW tell the students facts about crickets.
b. TSW tell what they have learned.
c. TTW write the student�s answers on the board.

Procedure 3:
a. TTW give each students props to act out the story The Very Quiet Cricket.
b. TSW color and cutout the props.
c. TSW act out the story.

Procedure 4:
a. TSW make up their own bug song.
b. TTW write a song on the board, but living blanks so the student can fill them in..
c. TSW fill in the blank to make their own bug song.
d. TSW sing their new song.

Products of the Rainforest
Pre-instructional:

Procedure 1:
a. TSW brainstorm products they think come from the rainforest.
b. TTW write the list on the board.

Procedure 2:
a. TSW predict what happens in The Chocolate Rabbit by Maria Claret
b. TTW read the story.
c. TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.
d. TSW draw a picture to show what happened in the story.

Procedure 3:
a. TTW tell the students products that come from the rain forest.
b. TSW tell what they have learned.
c. TTW write the student�s answers on the board.

Procedure 4:
a. TTW send a list of products home.
b. TSW check off the products that they have at their house.
c. TSW share their findings with the other students.

Procedure 5:
a. TTW give each student a magazine and construction paper.
c. TSW cutout products that are found in the rainforest.
d. TSW paste their products onto the construction paper.

Procedure 6:
a. TTW give each student a copy of the worksheet �The Life of a Cacao Tree.
b. TSW cutout the stages at the bottom and paste them in the correct order at the
