A little over a year ago, I stumbled onto an alternate universe of the Magnificent Seven that I'd never seen before. I really enjoyed how unique it was and who the characters fit together so well. This universe was called the "LAW Office" - Larabee and Wilmington. The seven men from the Magnificent Seven were private investigators working out of San Diego and often on cases that involved the characters of "Simon and Simon" - a favorite show of mine when I was young. Part of what was so appealing with this universe was that the environment - an office - was one I could relate to, while my mind was still allowed to wander as I thought about their many and varied cases.
I joined the list associated with it and very soon after wrote my first story in the the universe. In "Little Girl Lost", the boys are asked to find a child that was kidnapped two years before. The case hits close to home for one of the men, when he notices that the kidnapped child resembles someone he knows.
To commemorate the one year anniversary of the list, one of the members decided to put a book together featuring stories in the universe and letters from each of the members. My contribution was called "An Unexpected Resolution." It was actually an expansion of a ficlet I'd written for a drabble.
During that same time, things began to quiet down on the list and I wondered where everyone was. In response and out of boredom, I wrote a little message where I spoke to Ezra. This quickly grew until it became a rather entertaining Round Robin. It also happened to be occurring very close to April Fool's Day, which lead me to write a story where Ezra plays a rather surprising joke on his companions. |
