Sharing more about myself with YOU!
OK--I have told you a little about myself. . . that was right up front on my welcome page!  And I have also shared one my my most favorite poets, Walt Whitman and an excerpt from his wondrous Leaves of Grass!  Then I shared Kola Boof with you and her super story, "Day of Vow." (PS: I will be posting some her poetry before too long for you!)

What I am sharing on this page are examples of art that I have enjoyed and which I will make brief connections for you!  So scroll down and enjoy what you find!

Heather!
The Arnolfini Marriage

I have admired this painting for a long time.  I enjoy the themes of fidelity you can see in the inclusion of a dog and the shoes.  I also appreciate the wonderful irony of the pier glass (mirror) in the back ground--where one would expect to see the artist, but
he is not there (he is simply "all gone")!!
Bacchus by Caravaggio

You know I love literature and drama has its roots in the rites of Dionysius/Bacchus.  Of the ancient dieties, Bacchus is one that is part man and part god.  I love the implications of his dual nature: divinity and sensual indulgence!

The followers of Bacchus--women--were often frenzied and were
wide open with his presense.  I think that captures a little about me!

Also, the god of wine and
revelry, the theme of Bacchus in the painting resonates for me and my appreciation of wine, especially merlot!
This picture does not have a name; it is simply labelled, Indian Lovers. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the kama sutra--"the love book."

Another thing that resonates with this picture is my increasing interest in "
hieros gamos" or the sacred marriage.  This interest was sparked with my reading Dan Brown's The da Vinci Code during break.  And now, much like putting together puzzle pieces of my life, I am beginning to better understand why I am attracted to what I am!  If you would like to rear a little about "hieros gamos," please click HERE!

But another idea for me with this painting is the
connection between the lovers--the touch that I think is too often missing between lovers today.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoy the sensual, but I am convinced that through the sensual we truly realize our spiritual selves, too!.
As you see in my profile somewhere, I sometimes like goofy humor. . . and when a friend emailed this to me. . . well, I had to share with you all!

I know this is a different take on "art," but have fun with it!

Kisses!

Heather
