Easy Love Chapter Three: And the Changes Just Keep Coming

Two Days Later

Jack leaned into the door frame that led into his sisters room and watched her flip through a very thick textbook. One pencil behind her ear and a highlighter in her hand she scanned the pages thoroughly. Her entire body trained and tensed. He sighed letting her know that he was watching her and she looked up at him with tired eyes. Hey how long have you been standing there?

Just a minute or so. He remarked walking in and grabbing a seat at the end of her bed. Reaching out he took one of the many books off of the bed and turned it so that he could read the title. Renaissance Literature? He asked with raised eyebrows.

Yeah Theres a paper do this Friday and I havent even chosen an appropriate topic to do my paper on. I am so far behind that its killing me. She practically shrieked.

He shook his head. Andie what are you talking about? Why are you even taking this class? You dont need it You dont even have to go to school. You could be spending the last few months of your senior year on the couch watching good-brain cell damaging daytime television. You know I hear General Hospital has gone up tremendously in their ratings. You should see what all the buzz is about.

I am not exactly a daytime television kind of girl. She muttered.

You also arent the kind of girl to stay in a town and pass up a once in a lifetime opportunity for some guy either. He retorted.

Jack please. Can we not do this right now?

Then when? Because Andie we havent talked about it in two days. You havent offered one sensible explanation as to why youre still here and not across the world drinking Italian Expressos.

She sighed. You know why I told you why.

Because Dawson asked you to stay? Again Im not hearing a sensible explanation. I have never known you to do anything based off of some whimsical emotion. He remarked.

She stopped in mid-sentence and looked up at her brother. Is that what you think this is? That Dawson and I have this crippling emotional attachment to one another that hinders us from being apart? Well, thats not the way it is! You dont know the first thing about it!

Then please explain it to me because Im trying to understand Andie I really am. I dont know what is happening but you have to give me something. The only thing I can think of is that you you He hesitated.

What? She asked already suspecting his next statement.

That you stayed because you care about Dawson more then you let on. He replied.

She scoffed and got up off the bed moving to her desk under the pretense of looking for something. Thats ridiculous.

Is it? He questioned.

Dawson and I are just friends, Jack. We went through a lot together and share this bond that Ive never had with anyone before. But that bond is strictly platonic. There are no romantic tones beneath our empathetic words.

Jack nodded. Fine but just so you know, if you did have feelings for Dawson, and you assure me that you dont, but just if you did it would be okay, Andie. You wouldnt be doing anything wrong because youre entitled to your feelings. He replied.

But wouldnt that make me somewhat of a hypocrite? I would be doing the same thing that I reprimanded Pacey and Joey for doing.

He shook his head. No because you came to understand how wrong you were. You accepted their relationship because you knew in your heart that the way you feel about someone isnt in your control anymore then what that person feels for you. The heart wants what it wants and sometimes thats an inconvenience for other people but thats life. If we could all choose who we loved the world would probably be a simpler place but as the case may be, we cant.

She sighed deeply fidgeting with the highlighter in her hands. And if I did have these feelings for a certain fair hared boy do you think that there is even a remote possibility that he could reciprocate my affection? She asked softly.

Jack nodded. I believe that it is a possibility although with Dawson and the matters of the heart, he isnt exactly the quickest kid on the block. She laughed at his statement and rolled her eyes in an agreeing manner. But youll never know until you tell him. You cant hide here in your room, buried beneath a ton of textbooks and papers that you really dont need to do. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and go for it. He replied taking a stand. Walking over to her he kissed the top of her head and then was gone leaving her to her own thoughts.

She stood there for a moment thinking over his words until she couldnt think about anything else. With a certainty she hadnt had a moment ago she grabbed her hat and jacket and was down the stairs and out the door, Jack watching from the foyer with a smile.

Pacey and Joey lay on her bed cuddled together each with their own textbook desperately trying to submerge themselves in paragraphs of Social Studies and Economics. So have you talked to Andie? She asked trying to sound casual.

No not yet. Ive barely seen her.
