Mar 2007

Sai Ram! Few frames from first Agnihotra ever conducted in Kadek's home. It was Kadek's Birthday. A beautiful one!

Birds dance

Nov 2007

Bali. Traditional dance performance in Tonja, Denpasar. The motives of a dance are obviously taken from Indonesian Nature. Unfortunately, due to our technical developers are so active, country's remaining forests are being fast destroyed, so that to get sight of wild dancing birds is not an easy task nowadays.

Boy's dance

Collective cremation

Sept 2007

Indonesia, Bali. No, this is not another horrific movie from Internet. Actually, this is called cremation, but is not real cremation, because NO BODY is being burnt. There are no corps at all. So: relax and enjoy... Well, real cremation does take place in majority of Bali's villages. However, this video was taken not far from Tanah Lot temple. Last is treated by Balinese as one of the most sacred island's temples. They say it is because of nearness to Tanah Lot they don't cremate their corps in the given district. Instead: here corps from each house are at first stage being graved. People then wait for appropriate day, when they organize large gathering, which they call cremation. I continue below.

Collective cremation - 2

Sept 2007

(continued) ...But - instead of taking and burning off whatever still remains - they just read few mantras above the graves! Nothing and nobody is being burnt at all. Then why to call it cremation? Because Balinese give many wrong names to things. This wrong naming, along with “proximity of Tanah Lot” story, is merely a trick. Not all Balinese have accepted Hinduism with all it's “classic” attributes (including cremation). Just as they call themselves Hindus, but - at the same time - slaughter animals (you can see how dead Bird of Paradise is waved by priest in this video), so also some of them call graving of their family members by term CREMATION. This is merely untruth, lie... Anyway, isn't it wonderful that there so many happy faces can be seen in the video! As if it was a mass happy fest (and in fact it was!). Again: why? Because - as opposite to their western brothers and sisters - majority of eastern people aware of Reality Beyond Visible, i. e. - beyond life and death. These are related to physical bodies only, not to the Atman, or soul, which temporarily resides in body.

Durga-Lakshmi-Saraswati dance

Nov 2007

Bali. Performance in Tonja, Denpasar. Durga-Lakshmi-Saraswati dance is originally a holy Indian performance, which one won't see for money, no matter how much he/she is ready to pay. The reason is that if this dance is done for money, or is being performed in a wrong place etc., then the genuine energies of goddes Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are neither produced nor shared.

Beach, children, Sai Baba teachings

Dec 2007

Some young people used to conduct these Sunday beach teachings for children from Kedonganan and surroundings (Bali, Indonesia). After finishing theoretical part (which was usually combined with funny games), their next activity was cleaning beach from rubbish. (At least this is how it all was in December 2007 - early 2008). “Sai Ram, Sai Ram”-singing, as well as comments regarding what type of rubbish they must take away (namely: non-organic) are by one who made this little video.

Doghter

Feb 2007

I met this very emaciated dog on a street of Bali on February 14th 2007. We have thousands homeless dogs with terrible skin diseases here (many of them are totally hairless), but - in case of this dog - I couldn't proceed further to my birds rehabilitation Center. Because her both hind legs were broken. She looked for food in a pile of dirt, but could find only dirt.. She was very weak and her legs were all bleeding. There was so much infection all around: I thought - how could she find enough food in the piles of dirt along the road? She would have die slowly – of thirst and hunger, as well as from infection, unless someone cares. So I just picked her off the roar, and now she lives happily with me and protects our home from unwanted guests.

Doghter – 2*

Mar 2008

We used to undertake little walks with Sweety near my home, when I still lived in Bukit-Jimbaran, Bali. These years (2007, 2008) all green meadows around my former flat in Bukit are being sold (or given for rent) to foreigners, as well as to Javanese newcomers. Subsequently, new owners replace indigenous grass and trees by asphalt. Hundreds of diverse indigenous trees are being cut down and replaced by few foreign fast growing species. Of course, where only few kinds of trees grow, not many butterflies and birds can live... As of early 2008, there were still few green, paradise-like meadows remained near my flat. We used them for our walks during couple months.... Later, not only people destroyed many trees there, but also the owner of my flat started to sell alcohol. Our life became too hard and too boring also. It's difficult to live in home where people make noise in a night, where they always spit, and make other such things... In summer 2008, we've moved away from Bukit - to place where concentration of Hindu people is higher. Why Hindu? Because they have at least some minimal respect for this aspect of divinity called Mother Nature.

Feeding baby Spotted dove

Aug 2007

This baby was found on the road and brought to our Birds Rehabilitation Center in Denpasar, Bali. Garuda (as I named her) was so young at this time that during her first days in Center we had to feed her forcibly - by opening her mouth... However, very quickly she learned to pick food by herself. This short video shows this very moment when Garuda - for the first time in her short life - eats by herself! The primary goal of Birds Rehabilitation Center is to help people, which want to release their (formerly caged) birds. Birds, which spent long time in cages, can neither fly nor find food, and thus they need rehabilitation (e. g. special training).

P.S. Unfortunately, Garuda died in our Center after few months - as result of infection by microscopic mushroom. But, thanks her, we've learned a good deal about keeping and growing birds in tropical environments.

Free the birds!

Winter 2006/2007

Bali island. We release captive local bird. As you can see, first attempt was unsuccessful: instead of flying away, animal landed immediately. But there are too many cats around.. Counting the fact that bird is in good physical condition, and, at least, can fly, we further brought it to forested valley and released there. Now it flew and landed up on the tree. Perhaps, it would be safe to release immediately not more than 1% of all captured Bali birds (mainly - small omnivorous species). The rest needs step-by-step rehabilitation.

Kalimantan (fragment a)*

Sept 2006 - May 2008

A too noisy speedboat that we used to "go jungle" was the only negative moment of this otherwise fascinating expedition. However, as you watch this video, your ears enjoy beautiful music of Anugama, with which I replaced speedboat's roar. After realizing how much more beauty one can notice by floating in a silent traditional boat, I resolved never use loud motor vehicles in places like Kalimantan's remaining rainforests in a future.

Continued from above. In this fragment – after the Anugama music - songs of birds and gibbons follow. Anugama music was taken from www.openskymusic.com (free samples). Wild gibbons/birds were recorded by myself (in a forest of course). Check out my audios for more songs of wildlife.

Let's free them all!

Winter 2006/2007

We freed more birds the other day... I wish we can free them all, but this is impossible at the moment, cause -after sitting in cages for too long - majority of Balinese captive birds simply cannot fly, or don't know where/how to find food. Even if they learn these things again, how can they avoid being killed by clowns with air-guns? Many questions and problems. We work on all of them. With Sai Baba's blessings – slowly but surely - impossible becomes real.

Scaly-breasted munia baby

Aug 2007

Denpasar, Bali. This munia baby was found in the yard where I build our "Birds rehabilitation center". He dropped off the nest on the grounds frequently visited by cats. Parents were nearby, but they showed no ability to relocate their child to any safer spot. Meaning to help, I picked baby and brought to my home. There I kept him one evening and night, giving enough food regularly (the process of feeding you can see yourself). Next morning, I brought him back to the yard, where I found him. There I put him in a cage. Last was hanged on a tree, so that - on one hand - a bird now was protected from cats, while - on the other - parents were able to visit and feed him through the openings (what they readily did: I observed clearly - at least 3 times - how they gave food to their offspring). However, next morning I found baby in his cage being dead. Alas, something went wrong...

Sooty-headed bulbul

Nov 2007

This bulbul came to our center in early November 2007. Being rather insectivorous, he spent great deal of time in small (and, like usually - dirty) cage, where people fed him by dried protein grains mainly. Now I use scooting camera to make sure our little brother learns how to catch live insects, pick grains of food from the ground, and so on. In first part of this video (a black-white one) you can see how Bulbul picks live cricket from the top of hanged crickets box. I also use common feeding-rack attached to a post (see behind the box?), with some protein grains in it, so that to allow bird to eat food to what it is accustomed. The idea is to step-by-step replace it's artificial diet (which is result of spending long time with humans) by the natural one. It's a part of rehabilitation process.

White-vented myna and Sooty-headed bulbul

Dec 2007

Sai Ram! This is first part of another short video about our Free-the-Birds program in Bali. Our Birds Rehabilitation Center is apparently first place (at least in Indonesia) where all work is done by vegetarians, who - at the same time - try to see God in every living being. I strive to maintain this volunteer project entirely on the basis of unconditioned love, that comes from viewing all beings as manifestation of universal Atmic principle. Continued below.

White-vented myna and Sooty-headed bulbul - 2

Dec 2007

(continued) ..For example, no any material compensation is given in exchange for formerly caged birds. In other terms, birds are handled to us for free. I explain former owners that all we do is merely assuring better future for ourselves and our children: if the birds are kept in cages as is done nowadays (e. g. - each bird is usually kept alone - without even any chance to reproduce, not to mention dirt that usually fills each cage), some species will disappear within decade or so...

Yellow-vented bulbul

Winter 2006/2007

This cherukchuk, as a yellow-vented bulbul is known locally, was freed from dirty little cage and then released back to Nature, thus joining his mates. This was one of very first birds I freed in Bali, Indonesia.
