Gary Oak is Ash's rival, who is always several steps ahead of Ash. From the beginning, he has always teased Ash.
Along Gary's journey, he had trained hard, and studied hard as well.
But after losing in the Pokemon League, there wasn't any disappointment at all! He then decided to go out into a new journey, to train more.
He had become extremely powerfull ever since his loss in the Pokemon League, and his Grangfather, Professor Oak, also gives him his approval.
In episode "A Rivalry Revival", after Ash gets back from the Orange League, Gary and Ash have there first battle ever. Gary brutally wins with a very powerfull Eevee, against Pikachu.
Although, Gary still didn't think he was strong enough. So he decided to take a new challenge - the Johto League challenge.
