Scholarships
& How to
Join
Requirements
Students who participate in
speech and debate must be willing to invest time. Good time management becomes a
must due to the multiple tasks required of excellent forensicators. Many Kansas
students are surprised to learn college forensics lasts all year
(Sept-April). Academic work is
demanding in college. The director motivates students by encouraging them to
strive for a 3.0 grade point average as a requirement for scholarship.
The team travels to about two
tournaments a month, with approximately one meet in December and one meet in January. To
prepare for these meets, the team meets on Monday nights for a two hour practice
session. Students earn one credit per semester for class participation, which
can be repeated for up to four credits. Students should expect to spend three to
five hours a week in research and practice. Compensation
and scholarship Students
traveling with the Blue Dragon Forensics team receive a daily meal
allowance while on trips; all motel and transportation fees are paid. Further,
students have the option to audition for scholarships, which require four
tournaments per semester. The
scholarships, which come in varying dollar amounts, are awarded on a combined
basis of
need, talent, experience, and potential for growth. Back
