Ocean Park & Other Parts of Hongkong
The important thing in life is not where you stand now, but where you are going.
Jesus Christ says, “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life;
no one can come to the FATHER, except through Me.” (John 14:6)
What Hongkong people can teach us
I sought for the reason why Hongkong is like what it is today. Can the Philippines follow on its path to be as progressive?
The obvious reason lies in the citizenry. Like all other Chinese nationals all over the world, people of Hongkong love their roots more than anything else in this world. Inspite of the influence of other nations, she stuck with her chopstiks, noodles, chinese suits, language, values, & culture. Well, how about in our beloved country? Many Filipinos forsake our rich heritage, scoff at those who preserve it, & sally forth imitating all other cultures not ours & boastfully showing off ability to speak other languages such as American, Japanese, Spanish as though, mere speaking of which, shows superior social status, yet forget the conduct inherent thereof.
But wait, isn’t our culture considered a melting pot of many others because of long period we have been under foreign conquest, by the Spaniards, Japanese,
American? So we are not to blame, we’re just humans.
Most of those whom you said ignoring our heritage are foreigners & their siblings who just received Filipino citizenship by marriages or immigration laws. So you cannot really bring back or superimpose specific culture or tradition, especially on those who are in powers & with great wealth, who are not actually native Filipinos.
But look at Hongkong, many years under British and/or American influence. Has any real Hongkong national, lost their identity? Ironically, foreigners seem to admire them.
Look at certain Filipinos, devouring burgers & fries, like no other, with hair bleached with agua oxynada, wearing scant clothes revealing breast cleavage & navel, some proudly mouthing vanities & vulgar “homosexual” jokes in Taglish. That’s what you can call adulterated culture. And who likes that? Where will it lead to? Lost of identity, low self-esteem, lack of moral direction, & faction.
