The Fourth Rightly-Guided Caliph of Islam, Sayyidina Ali ibn Abi Talib once said, "Knowledge is better than wealth because knowledge looks after you while you have to look after your wealth; knowledge determines your actions while wealth is determined by your actions; and knowledge increases when you use it but wealth decreases when you use it".
It is well known that all civilizations have a very high regard for knowledge, so much so that students, scholars, educators as well as men of intellect are treated with the utmost respect. Our society is no different in its attitude towards knowledge and education.
We strongly believe that
education is not only a basic need but indeed a very important investment
in human capital. It is a sure vehicle for bringing about a significant
improvement in the quality of life in individuals and society.
What is essential is that access to a high quality tertiary education at
an affordable price is made available to as many interested individuals as
possible. It is to this end that UNITAR commits itself, by bringing in a
completely new paradigm in education and learning where the latest, and
the most easily affordable, in communication and information technologies
is deployed, to provide the widest opportunity possible for tertiary
education. We earnestly hope that you will take the first step towards a
better future by informing yourself about UNITAR through this homepage.
This year has been an important year for all UNITAR students because of
two major developments. First, we received an assurance from the
Ministry of Education and the Minister himself that all our courses are
recognised by the government. In March 1999, the Hon. Minister
of Education, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak announced to the
public that the government recognised all the courses offered at UNITAR
and this means that those who graduate from the university will be able to
work with the Government. Second, all our undergraduate students
will be eligible to apply for education loans from the National Higher
Education Fund Corporation (NHEFC). In April 1999, the Hon.
Minister of Education, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak announced
that UNITAR is the fourth private university whose students are eligible
to receive educational loans from the corporation.
You may rest assured that UNITAR will not cease to bring news which will benefit you, as there are many more major developments to come. UNITAR will ensure that all-round quality education is delivered to you. All you have to do is to work hard and excel in your studies at UNITAR. You are among the pioneers of this new approach which is the future of education. Making virtual education a success and a model for others lies in your hands.
