Information about The Hawkeye
The Hawkeye: Online Edition is the online student publication for The Hawkeye from Newtown High School in Sandy Hook,
Connecticut (http://newtown.k12.ct.us/~nhs/). The Hawkeye is published
by the Journalism classes at NHS under the instruction of Mrs. Nicole Rossi. Its purpose is to inform the student body of
NHS and the surrounding community about various school issues and events.
As NHS's official newspaper, we report all aspects of school and community-related events. We seek to investigate and
promote discussion in the school community. The opinions expressed within the articles are those of the staff writers and
editors, and do not necessarily reflect the position of the school board, administration, or teachers. The student
journalists of The Hawkeye will publish only legally protected speech, observing laws of libel, obscenity and invasion
of privacy.
The advisor of The Hawkeye will offer their services to help the staff meet professional standards of journalism.
The Hawkeye staff is made up of three Editor-in-Chiefs, Section Editors, and Staff Writers. Any and all students at
Newtown High School are welcome to apply to take a Journalism course as part of their school schedule, though we do not
require students to be staff writers to submit articles. We will accept guest writers to create articles to put on The
Hawkeye: Online Edition.
The Hawkeye glady welcomes and encourages feedback (including letters to the editors, or general comments). We will
publish appropriate feedback and public expression, so long as staff members can verify the authenticity of the writer's
identity and content. The editorial board will work to maintain the intent of the feedback, however, we reserve the right to
edit all submissions for the issues of length, grammar, potential libel, invasion of privacy, obscenity, or any other factors
thought to be pertinent.
The Hawkeye will not drastically alter pictures posted on the internet. Enhancements may be made for clarity sake,
and may or may not be noted.
The Hawkeye will not plagiarize others.
In order to represent a wide range of views within the community, The Hawkeye staff will make efforts to avoid having
a staff member interviewing friends or classmates whenever possible, but instead will seek out a broad range of sources for
any story.
Staff members will strive to publish all articles free of error. Any errors found after publication will be corrected. If the
editorial board decides a significant error has been made, a formal correction will be posted to the website. To submit
corrections please contact us by emailing [email protected].
Feel free to contact us for any reason with any comments, questions, etc.
