:: the hi-jinx! ::

Out of Hand was the first film I made at Chapman University. Dumped into an strange town in a forigen state populated by absolutely no one I knew, I was faced with the tasty task of writing, shooting and editing a completely original movie with no dialouge in less than a month. The only thing I really knew at the time was that I didn't have a clue about where I was or how to get what I needed. I thought that my mad film-making skills would make up for all this, but the most important thing I ended up learning while making this movie was that my skills were not nearly as mad as I thought. It was my determination to end up with a respectable movie that turned out to be the maddest thing I had.
And mad was almost what the whole thing drove me.
The end result is actually pretty good, though. It's not the masterpiece I was shooting for; it's actually got a couple of rather glaring flaws, which I'm working on fixing up in a new cut that should be done some time in January. However, when people get it, and it doesn't always happen, but sometimes there's that moment when all the piece fit together and they gasp and start smiling. And even one of those moments of genuine surprise makes the whole darn thing worth it.
