| The third and final full album release by Econoline Crush, released in 2001 both in Canada and the United States under one of the two cover arts on the right. I personally have never seen the second version and didn't know one existed to begin with...if anyone owns a copy of Brand New History with the white cover please contact me. The band had undergone its final member changes while going hard on tour in support of TDYK (for almost 3 years!) The more streamlined outfit of Hurst, Sigmund, Yaremko (now back after leaving the band) and new drummer Johnny Haro (of Stabbing Westward fame) gave rise to a more streamlined album. There is a marked change in the music from TDYK. Industrial sounds that made EC famous were close to completely shelved for BNH. Brand New History can almost be described as a mainstream rock release, and songs like Make It Right, You Don't Know What It's Like (the two single releases) and Trash highlight this shift. In short, Ziggy tears it up in Brand New History! The lyrics are decidedly upbeat in sections, a comment that can't be made about the other of EC's releases. Make It Right, My Salvation and Tomorrow Starts Today are good examples. Listening to Brand New History now, knowing about Trevor Hurst's new band, it is easy to see the resemblance. In summary, BNH is a great record but not quite as good as TDYK in my opinion. |
