Date: No date Location: Walberswick, Nr. Southwold, Suffolk Walberswick near Southwold on the Suffolk coast is the location of a frequently reported white dog thought to have been waiting for its owner for the past century or so. One such report comes from the author Penelope Fitzgerald who was taking a pony across Walberswick Common when it reacted badly to a white apparition in the bracken which resembled four large milk containers. On closer inspection it appeared to be a large white dog, ‘like a very large pointer’, and it was only afterwards that the witness realised how strange it was that the dog had managed to get away through the bracken without making a sound. The witness herself stated that many people do not recognise ghosts even when they encounter them; it is later that they reflect on some strange aspect of the encounter. While this certainly true it is also true that even at the time people often have some almost subliminal sense of ‘something not quite right’ which stays in their mind. However, it can often take a long time for the reason of what was ‘wrong’ to surface.
