Morning Prayers – LAUDS

Invitatory Prayers here

Psalm 85 (86)

Ant. 1

Ordinary: Gladden your servant’s soul, Lord, for to you I lift up my soul.

Advent: The almighty Lord proceeds from Zion to give salvation to his people.

Easter-tide: All nations shall come and prostrate before you, Lord, halleluia.

Incline your ear, oh Lord, and answer me,

For I am poor and needy.

Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you;

Save your servant who trusts in you.

You are my God; be gracious to me, oh Lord,

For to you do I cry all day long.

Gladden the soul of your servant,

For to you, oh Lord, I lift up my soul.

For you, oh Lord, are good and forgiving,

Abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.

Give ear, oh Lord, to my prayer;

Listen to my cry of supplication.

In the day of my trouble I call on you,

For you will answer me.

There is none like you among the gods, oh Lord,

Nor are there any works like yours.

All the nations you have made

Shall come and bow down before you,

And shall glorify your name, oh Lord.

For you are great and do wondrous things;

You alone are God.

Teach me your way, oh Lord,

That I may walk in your truth;

Give me an undivided heart to revere your name.

With my whole heart I give thanks to you, oh Lord my God,

And I will glorify your name forever.

For great is your steadfast love toward me;

You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Oh God, the insolent rise up against me;

A band of ruffians seeks my life,

And they do not set you before them.

But you, oh Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,

Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

Turn to me and be gracious to me;

Give your strength to your servant;

Save the child of your serving girl.

Show me a sign of your favor,

So that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame,

Because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Ant. 1

Advent: The almighty Lord proceeds from Zion to give salvation to his people.

Easter-tide: All nations shall come and prostrate before you, Lord, halleluia.

Ant. 2

Ordinary: Blessed is he who walks righteously and speaks uprightly.

Advent: I shall not tire due to Zion, until its Just One will shine like a ray of light.

Easter-tide: Our eyes shall behold the king in all his beauty, halleluia.

Hear, you who are far away,

Hear what I have done;

And you who are near,

Acknowledge my might.

The sinners in Zion are afraid;

Trembling has seized the godless:

Who among us can live with the devouring fire?

Who among us can live with everlasting flames?

Those who walk righteously and speak uprightly,

Who despise the gain of oppression,

Who wave away a bribe instead of accepting it,

Who stop their ears from hearing of bloodshed

And shut their eyes

From looking on evil.

They will live on the heights;

Their refuge will be the fortresses of rocks;

Their food will be supplied,

Their water assured.

Easter-tide: All peoples shall see the salvation of our God, halleluia.

Oh sing to the Lord a new song,

For he has done marvelous things.

His right hand and his holy arm

Have gotten him victory.

The Lord has made known his victory;

He has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.

He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness

To the house of Israel.

All the the earth, from end to end,

Has seen the victory of our God.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;

Break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,

With the lyre and the sound of melody.

With trumpets and the sound of the horn

Make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;

The world and those who live in it.

Let the floods clap their hands;

Let the hills sing together for joy

At the presence of the Lord,

For he is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world with righteousness,

And the peoples with equity.

Short Lesson in Ordinary Time

Job 1,21-2,10

Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I there return; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. If we take happiness from God’s hand, must we not take sorrow too?
