END PRAYERS

In response to the Word a few minutes of silence may follow.

After which, the Evangelical Canticle from Luke1 is recited:

The Messiah and his Forerunner

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,

For he has visited and redeemed his people,

And has raised up for us a horn of salvation

In the house of his servant David,

As he spoke since the world began

By the mouth of his holy prophets,

That we should be saved from our enemies and

From the hand of all that hate us.

So to perform the mercy promised to our fathers,

To remember his holy covenant,

The oath he swore to our father Abraham,

That he would grant us that,

Being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,

We might serve him without fear

All days of our life before him,

In holiness and righteousness.

And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest;

For you shall go before the Lord to prepare his ways,

To make his people aware of the coming salvation,

Of the remission of their sins,

Through the tender mercy of our God;

Who sends us from on high the first light of Day,

To give light to them who sit

In darkness, and in the shadow of death,

To guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father,

To the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning,

Now and for ever, Amen.

The Our Father is then recited - and final prayers said:

May the Lord and his peace be with us that we may receive his blessing,
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
