Morning Prayers – LAUDS

Invitatory Prayers here

Psalm 76 (77)

Ant. 1

Ordinary: Oh God your way is holy; which god is as great as our God?

Easter-tide: The waters have seen you, oh God; you have passed your people from the seas, halleluia.

With a loud voice I cry to God,

Aloud to God, that he may hear me.

In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;

In the night my hand is stretched out without wearying;

My soul refuses to be comforted.

I think of God, and I moan;

I meditate, and my spirit faints.

You keep my eyelids from closing;

I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

I consider the days of old,

I remember the years of long ago.

I commune with my heart in the night;

I meditate and search my spirit

"Will the Lord spurn forever,

Never again to be favorable?

Has his steadfast love ceased forever?

Are his promises at an end for all time?

Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has he in anger shut up his compassion?"

I should say, "It is my grief

That the right hand of the Most High has changed."

I will call to mind the deeds of the Lord;

I will remember your wonders of old.

When I meditate on all your work,

I muse on your mighty deeds.

Your way, oh God, is holy.

What god is so great as our God?

You are the God who works wonders;

You have displayed your might among the peoples.

With your strong arm you redeemed your people,

The descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

When the waters saw you, oh God,

They feared when they saw you,

The very deep trembled.

The clouds poured out water; the skies thundered;

Your arrows flashed on every side.

The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;

Your lightnings lit up the world;

The earth trembled and shook.

Your way was through the sea,

Your path, through the mighty waters;

Yet your footprints were unseen.

You led your people like a flock

By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Ant. 1

Ordinary: Oh God your way is holy; which god is as great as our God?

Easter-tide: The waters have seen you, oh God; you have passed your people from the seas, halleluia.

1 Samuel 2, 1-10

Ant. 2

Ordinary: My heart exults in the Lord who brings low but also exalts.

Easter-tide: The Lord sends death and gives life, halleluia.

"My heart exults in the Lord;

My strength is exalted in my God.

My mouth derides my enemies,

Because I rejoice in my victory.

"There is no Holy One like the Lord,

No one besides you;

There is no Rock like our God.

Talk no more so very proudly,

Let not arrogance come from your mouth;

For the Lord is a God of knowledge,

It is by him that actions are weighed.

The bows of the mighty are broken,

But the feeble gird on strength.

Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread,

But those who were hungry are fat with spoil.

The barren has borne seven,

But she who has many children is forlorn.

The Lord kills and brings to life;

He brings down to Sheol and raises up.

The Lord makes poor and makes rich;

He brings low, he also exalts.

He raises up the poor from the dust;

He lifts the needy from the ash heap,

To make them sit with princes

Where they inherit a seat of honor.

For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,

On them he has set the world."

He will guard the feet of his faithful ones,

But the wicked shall be cut off in darkness;

For not by might does man prevail.

The Lord! His adversaries shall be shattered;

The Most High will thunder in heaven.

The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;

He will give strength to his king,

He will exalt the power of his anointed."

Ant. 2

Ordinary: My heart exults in the Lord who brings low but also exalts.

Easter-tide: The Lord sends death and gives life, halleluia.

Psalm 96 (97)

Ant. 3

Ordinary: All earth shall rejoice before our Lord and King!

Easter-tide: Light has been enkindled on the just one, and joy for the heart of the righteous, halleluia.

The Lord is king!

Let the earth rejoice;

Let the many coastlands be glad!

Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

Fire goes before him,

It consumes his adversaries on every side.

His lightnings light up the world;

The earth sees and trembles.

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,

Before the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens proclaim his righteousness;

All the peoples behold his glory.

All worshipers of images are put to shame,

Those who make their boast in worthless idols;

All gods bow down before him.

Zion hears and is glad,

The towns of Judah rejoice,

Because of your judgments, oh God.

For you, oh Lord,

Are most high over all the earth;

You are exalted far above all gods.

The Lord loves those who hate evil;

He guards the lives of his faithful;

He rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

Light dawns for the righteous,

There is joy for the upright in heart.

Rejoice oh you righteous in the Lord,

Give thanks to his holy name!

Ant. 3

Ordinary: All earth shall rejoice before our Lord and King!

Easter-tide: Light has been enkindled on the just one, and joy for the heart of the righteous, halleluia.

Short Lesson in Ordinary Time

Rom. 8, 35. 37

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
