Morning Prayers – LAUDS

Invitatory Prayers here

Psalm 35 (36)

Ant. 1

Ordinary: In your light, oh God, we see the light.

Christmas-tide: Tell us, oh shepherds, whom have you seen, who has appeared on earth? We have seen the Lord who has been born, and the hosts of angels praising him, Alleluia.

Easter Octave: Christ has risen from the dead and has enlightened his people, whom he has redeemed with his blood, halleluia.

Easter-tide: Lord, within you lies the spring of life, halleluia.

Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in their hearts;

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

For they flatter themselves in their own eyes

That their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit;

They have ceased to act wisely and do good.

They plot mischief while on their beds;

They are set on a way that is not good; they do not reject evil.

Your steadfast love, oh Lord, extends to the heavens,

Your faithfulness to the clouds.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

Your judgments are like the great deep;

How precious is your steadfast love, oh God!

All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings,

You save humans and animals alike, oh Lord.

They feast on the abundance of your house,

And you give them drink from the river of your delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

In your light we see light.

Oh continue your steadfast love to those who know you,

And your salvation to the upright of heart!

Do not let the foot of the arrogant tread on me,

Or the hand of the wicked drive me away.

There the evildoers lie prostrate;

They are thrust down, unable to rise.

Jud. 16, 1-2, 13-16

Ant. 2

Ordinary: You are great, Lord, glorious and wonderfully strong.

Easter Octave: Christ has risen from the dead and has enlightened his people, whom he has redeemed with his blood, halleluia.

Easter-tide: Lord, you have sent your Spirit, and he has created all beings, halleluia.

Break into song for my God, sing in honour of the Lord,

Let psalm and canticle mingle for him, extol his name, invoke it!

For the Lord is a God who breaks battle-lines;

He has delivered me from the hands of my oppressors.

I shall sing a new song to my God. Lord, you are great,

You are glorious, wonderfully strong, unconquerable.

May your whole creation serve you!

For you spoke and things came into being,

You sent your breath and they were put together,

No person can resist your voice.

Should mountains toss from their foundations to join the seas,

Should rocks melt like wax before your face,

You would still be merciful

To those who fear you.

Great is he for ever

whoever fears the Lord.

Ant. 2

Easter Octave: Christ has risen from the dead and has enlightened his people, whom he has redeemed with his blood, halleluia.

Easter-tide: Lord, you have sent your Spirit, and he has created all beings, halleluia.

Psalm 46 (47)

Ant. 3

Ordinary: Shout you all to God with loud songs of joy.

Easter Octave: Halleluiah, the Lord has arisen as he had told you, halleluia.

Easter-tide: God is king over all earth: sing ye to him artfully a beautiful hymn, halleluia.

Clap your hands, all you peoples;

Shout to God with loud songs of joy.

For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,

A great king over all the earth.

He subdued peoples under us,

And nations under our feet.

He chose our heritage for us,

The pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout,

The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises;

Sing praises to our King, sing praises.

For God is the king of all the earth;

sing praises with a psalm.

God is king over the nations;

God sits on his holy throne.

The princes of the peoples gather

As the people of the God of Abraham.

For the shields of the earth belong to God;

He is highly exalted.

Ant. 3

Short Lesson in Ordinary Time

Tob. 4, 15-16, 19

Watch yourself, my son, in everything you do, and be disciplined in all your conduct. Give of your bread to the hungry, and of your clothing to the naked. Give all your surplus to charity. Bless the Lord God on every occasion and ask him that your ways may be made straight and that all in your paths and plans may prosper.
