Invitatory Prayers
here i50 (51)Ant. 1
Ordinary:
You will delight in right sacrifices on your altar, Lord.Christmas-tide:
Tell us, oh shepherds, whom have you seen, who has appeared on earth? We have seen the Lord who has been born, and the hosts of angels praising him, Alleluia.Easter Octave:
Christ has risen from the dead and has enlightened his people, whom he has redeemed with his blood, halleluia.Easter-tide:
Lord God, remember me when you are in your kingdom, halleluia.Have mercy on me, oh God, according to your steadfast love;
According to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you alone, have I sinned,
And done what is evil in your sight,
So that you are justified in your sentence
And blameless when you pass judgment.
Indeed, I was born guilty,
A sinner when my mother conceived me.
You desire truth in the inward being;
Therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
Let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, oh God,
And put a new and right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
And do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
And sustain in me a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
And sinners will return to you.
Deliver me from bloodshed, oh God,
Oh God of my salvation,
And my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
Oh Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth will declare your praise.
For you have no delight in sacrifice;
If I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart, oh God, you will not despise.
Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
Rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,
Then you will delight in right sacrifices,
In burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
Then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Ant. 2
Ordinary:
In the Lord all the offspring of Israel shall triumph and glory.Easter Octave:
Christ has risen from the dead and has enlightened his people, whom he has redeemed with his blood, halleluia.Easter-tide:
God, the Saviour of Israel, is verily a hidden God, halleluia.Truly, you are a God who hides himself,
Oh God of Israel, the Savior.
All of them are put to shame and confounded,
The makers of idols go in confusion together.
But Israel is saved by the Lord
With everlasting salvation;
You shall not be put to shame
Or confounded to all eternity.
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens,
He is God who formed the earth, made it and established it;
He did not create it a chaos,
He formed it to be inhabited:
"I am the Lord, and there is no other.
I did not speak in secret,
In a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
‘Seek me in chaos.’
I am the Lord, who speaks the truth,
I declare what is right".
Assemble yourselves and come together,
Draw near, you survivors of the nations!
They have no knowledge,
Those who carry about their wooden idols,
And keep on praying to a god that cannot save.
Declare and present your case;
Let them take counsel together!
"Who told this long ago?
Who declared it of old?
Was it not I, the Lord?
There is no other god besides me,
A righteous God and a Savior; there is no one besides me.
Turn to me and be saved,
All the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn,
From my mouth has gone forth in righteousness
A word that shall not return:
To me every knee shall bow,
Every tongue shall swear.
It shall be said of me,
‘Only in the Lord, are righteousness and strength;
All who were incensed against him
Shall come to him and be ashamed,
In the Lord all the offspring of Israel
Shall triumph and glory’."

Enter before the Lord’s presence with joyful singing.Easter Octave:
Halleluiah, the Lord has arisen as he had told you, halleluia.Easter-tide:
Serve the Lord joyfully, halleluia.Make a joyful noise to the Lord,
All you people of the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
Come into his presence with joyful singing
Know that the Lord is God;
It is he that made us, and we are his;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
And his courts with praise;
Give him thanks, bless his name
For the Lord is good;
His steadfast love endures forever,
And his faithfulness to all generations.

Eph. 4, 29-32
Let no corrupt words be uttered out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and insult, and evil speaking, be put away from you, together with all other malice. Be kind one to another, tender hearted and forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.
