What They Ate
Links to my Webpages
All kinds of Miwok were intensive plant food collectors. They were extremely good at locating plants. Their main foods were acorns, buckeyes, California laurel, Digger and Coulter pine seeds, grasses and plants seeds, and Brodiaea bulbs, of which there were plenty of all of them scattered around Mount Diablo. But acorns were most important to them. Acorns came from the Blue Oak, the Valley Oak, and the Coastal Live Oak, all profuse on Mount Diablo. They also caught fish and killed other animals for the meat and, sometimes, the skin or tallow, such as Buffalo and Cows.
