22

Thats so sweet of you, Denby, Diane scowled at Harry.

Desperately trying to rescue himself, Harry attempted again. Im just saying, at 22 you had other, more pressing things on your mind than auditions. I suspect youve had the weight of the world on your shoulders for some time.

Wow, so now Im a careworn, haggard old broad, Diane said, incredulous.

Diane, your depth and intelligence make you far more beautiful than any bouncy 22-year-old bimbo has any hope of achieving, Bob gallantly volunteered as he gently held Dianes hand, then stroked it with his strong thumb.

Bob wins round one, Diane said, smiling at Bob. Bob gazed adoringly into her eyes.

Well, lets get down to business, Harry said, sticking out his hand to grab a copy of the release order from Bobs side of the table. Diane excused herself to visit the ladies room and make a few calls. Reluctantly, she removed her hand from Bobs warm grasp, and she ran her hand over his shoulders as she walked around behind his chair. When she returned to the table, Bob and Harry had put away their paperwork and their meals were before them, ready to eat.

After half an hour of munching, crunching and flirting, and Diane clearly enjoying the attention, Danny Sorenson walked in to the restaurant and joined them. Harry understood he would be staying the night with Danny. They got right down to the business of how they were going to go about finding Jill and Kyle the next morning.

So, lets talk about Dons patterns, Danny started right in. Where does he move, Denby?

Well, theres Lauren, who lives upstate.

Already checked it out. In fact, thats where Jills son was parked. We have him at a cops house now, Frank. Danny looked over at Diane, who sighed with relief and pushed her hair back from her face.

Oh, really? Whose? Bob seemed genuinely concerned for Franks welfare.

Oh, its a safe place. Never mind that. Its need-to-know only. Im more worried about Don at this point. In the wind, hes a target. We need to get to him before hes gone as a lead to get Jill back.

Harry scratched his forehead, then listed off a few more places Don was likely to haunt. While Harry talked, Bob found an excuse to reassure Diane, subtly rubbing her shoulder, then her arm, and finally letting his hand glide to hers. Diane kept looking at Bob while Harry talked. Both Harry and Danny were distracted by Bob and Dianes increasing contact and kept looking over at them, stammering at times.
