Our Day Trip to  Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Mt Franklin - 9 May 2004
The  fog and rain cleared after driving for about an hour and a half from Burwood in Melbourne to  Daylesford.
On the way we left the  freeway  to Ballarat at Ballan, a lovely village with this  amazing house on the main street. It had fences covered in artistic "tiles" of ceramic and pottery bits and pieces and even cutlery!. The owner saw us admiring her work and invited us  to walk around the garden too which was adorned with all kinds of ornaments and lovely flowers.

Main street, Ballan.

The Convent  art gallery, bar, chapel, reception centre with a fabulous view over Daylesford.I did not take this photo - the leaves were not really great but there was a  huge holly tree which was in berries- the tree jsut left of the tower. There was an open fire in the bar  but there was also modern loud music. As it was quite warm in the sun some people were having a drink on the outdoor terrace here too. Recent expansion to these areas up the hill done in the the last year osr so I think?
Otherwise Daylesford itself in the main street is not much changed in the last 5 years or so.

Mt Franklin Picnic area in crater of extinct volcano. About 3 miles east of Hepburn Springs in a little
state park- with a great view from the top of the rim of the volcano -a full 360 degrees-where there iss a  bush fire spotters tower and lots of electronic gear.
Mount Franklin was amazing - inside a crater there was this lovely picnic area of yellow leafed trees
and dark green Laurel trees with mossy green grass underneath.
