With the vast majority of the numbered highways in south Louisiana being state routes, the numbering system produces some oddities (see Florida). Here, LA 1 meets LA 987-1. If I recall correctly, 987-1 then leads to LA 986. Directly behind the sign, the Mississippi River Bridge carrying US 190 heads east towards Baton Rouge. The juggler to the right advertises Lucky Louie's Mini-Casino.
LA 986 continues south along the edge of the river, just inside (east of) LA 1 as it, too, traces, the course of the mighty Mississippi in West Baton Rouge Parish. S.R. 986 crosses LA 1 in northern Port Allen. |
