Poplar Grove water tower
from LA 986
If water towers are your favorite landmark, then Louisiana and Florida are Southern goldmines: the flat lay of the land makes finding towers a cinch. Plus, since there are often no hills to place the towers on (taking advantage of gravity to produce higher water pressure), more towers have to be built to maintain adequate service.

LA State Route 986 runs from US 190 at the Mississippi River Bridge south to Port Allen, just a couple of miles short of the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge. The Poplar Grove tower lies off to the west along with two other towers, some weathered barns and industrial plants. It's a backroads fan's find.
