Angel's Burger History

Born out of love for food and Family, Angel's Hamburger lets us in on how they became an instant hit in the country.

Doing what you love will always be the best tip in staying strong in any business venture. Whether you work for a big company or own a business—passion for work will surely guarantee success. For Joseph and Victoria Mojica, establishing the nation’s favorite—Angel’s Hamburger—is the best manifestation of passion and dedication.

In their quest to become financially stable and independent from their families when they got married in 1991, the Mojicas ded not just rely on their own jobs and decided to venture into food business. Since they are both food lovers, the couple started Cholo’s gotohan and Joma’s bulalo – named after their sons, Carlo Angelo and Jose Manuel. It helped that Victoria, Or Vicky as friends call her – a proud Kapampangan, is passionate about cooking. But like any other endeavor, it was not easy at first. It was a hit-and-miss for the couple, but both were willing to take on risks and challenges. The Experience did not stop them from starting another food venture. “Malakas ‘yung fighting spirit namin eh,” Vicky shares. “Kaya hindi kami napanghinaan ng loob at basta tumigil.”

Their third attempt in the food business happened in 1997 when Vicky gave birth to Angelica. At the time, burgers were well-accepted among Filipinos prompting Joseph to conceptualize a burger brand that paved the way to the establishment of a burger chain named after their first daughter — Angel’s hamburger. With only five outlets in the beginning, the Mojica’s received a positive reception from the public. “Nagustuhan nila yung lasa ng Angel’s Hamburger,” exclaims Vicky.

With a series of experiments using different recipes, it took Joseph about three months to get the taste of Angel’s Hamburger. “Factor din noon is pinapatikim naming kay Angel ang lahat ng timpla na nagagawa ko,” shares Joseph. In 1999, the couple decided to go to the States and worked in several Filipino stores. During this six-month sojourn, they were able to acquire knowledge and inspiration that would eventually revamp Angel’s Hamburger.

When they returned to the Philippines, they wasted no time and improved their burger business—changed the color schemes from green and white to red and yellow as well as applied unconventional business strategies apart from merely adopting traditional marketing tactics — encouraging customers to come back for more. “From then on, nagbloom na talaga ang Angel’s Hamburger,” recalls Vicky. “Gusto kasi ng mga tao yung buy one take one, sulit—masansp na mura pa,” adds Joseph. It was also during this time that they opened their doors for franchising making way for Angel’s Hamburger to have the widest burger chain coverage with almost a thousand outlets all over the county.

Aside from franchising, the burger’s taste has been a vital element that incited their success. To ensure that Angel’s Hamburger offers only the best burgers in town, they make sure they partner with only the best - San Miguel Pure Foods - Great Food Solutions, Inc. (GFS). As their trusted supplier, GFS provides the best flour for their burger buns, Purefood’s King Hard Wheat Flour; their tasty cheeseburgers, Magnolia Filled Cheese and their aromatic coffee, San Mig Coffee 3 in 1 coffee mix. “What is good about GFS is they provide us with consistent quality flour and cheese,“ shares Joseph. Si GFS maaasahan talaga.

” Being in the industry for almost two decades now, Angel’s Hamburger continues to strive to maintain their quality burgers as well as experiment and explore to be able to exceed the goals they’ve set for the brand. “We make it a point to upgrade at mas lalo pang pasarapin ang mga burgers ng Angel’s”
