We had scheduled an elective c-section for the 31st of August 2001. At about 6 pm on the 29th my waters broke, not realising they had indeed broken, I ate dinner. Afterwards I noticed things were not quite right down there so decided I better ring my midwife just to be sure.
And sure enough, my waters had broken!!
We headed up to the labour ward, and found because I had eaten dinner we had to wait 6 hours before we could have the c-section. and finally at 12:28 am on the 30th of August Katelyn Susan Patricia was born weighing a nice 9 1/2 pounds, not the 10 pds 4 she was estimated to be a few weeks earlier!
Everything went very well, I recovered quickly and went home 3 days later. Albiet a little sore, and overwhelmed. I did find the 3rd c-section really knocked it out of me, and although the wound healed very quickly, I found I was very tired and exausted. With two preshoolers in tow, it was very hard to find the rest a new mum needs!
Katelyn and I had a few hectic few weeks trying to breastfeed, but we found with a lot of preserverance we got there in the end, and she is now fully breastfed. I almost gave up at one stage and was even almost fully bottle feeding when my midwife suggested taking her to an Osteopath, who massaged her cranium (bones in her head) shoulders, back and nasal area. This particular technique was all the help she needed, and Katelyn has not had a bottle since that massage.
Katelyn is my third baby, but my partner Grahams first, and she is truely loved by everyone especially daddy. she will definatley be a daddys girl!
