THE WOLFRAIDER
In October of 1951, 1st LT. Collins departed MCAS El Toro with the VMA-121 via NAS North Island . The USS Sitkoh Bay (CVE-86) set sail on October 2 for Yokosuka, Japan, arriving on October 18. On the 22nd, the VMA-121 transferred to K-3 Pohang, Korea and MAG-33, The squadron began air interdiction and close air support missions on October 24 in support of the 5th Air Force. Soon after arriving in Korea, Lieutenant Collins moved to K-6 P'yongtaek with the VMA-121, MAG-12 where he was stationed until his death on May 20, 1952. This is the chart showing how much he earned to die for his country in May of 1952. He was an O-2 officer with three young daughters. Was his sacrifice it worth it?
