One of the seven Hathors, Shai presided over destiny and decided the fate of individuals. Shai, often being paired with Renenet, stood alone by the Pillar of Balance in the Papyrus of Ani, while Renenet stands with Meskhet. Shai gives the account of the dead's life and past deeds.
