On 23 June 2002 I was at Christie's auctioneers and was drawn to a small painting depicting a semi-nude lady. It was a painting by Han van Meegeren, world's best counterfeiter of 17 th century masters like Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Pieter de Hooch. This small painting was the start of what you can call an obsession for this extraordinary man. As good as all his forgeries can be found in the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), Boymans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and the Groninger Museum. My private collection contains work in his own style: Han van Meegeren! Leon Vosters |
