After the second World War the painting was found in the basement of Reichsmarschall Goring.
He had purchased the painting for the amount of 1.650.000 Dutch Guilders.
The trace led to Han van Meegeren
And this eventually led to the discovery of several paintings, one of which was "Christ at Emmaus".
