Introduction & History

¡¡

¡¡ The Han River Harriers is an international football club playing in the Super Sunday Football League based in Seoul, South Korea. The Harriers trace their lineage back to Seoul British Football Club, the oldest existing international football club in the country.

Everyone loves a winner and by 2001, the ranks of SBFC had swelled with twenty or more players showing up every game. Several members of SBFC, frustrated by a lack of playing time, formed a new club they named The U.K. Expats (a.k.a. ¡°The Sexpats¡±).

After a dismal 2002-2003 season where the Sexpats finished second from bottom of the league, a core group of players from the team, led by David Shin, decided they would have a better chance in the next season by forming a new team with stricter rules regarding new members and substitutions.

Thus it was that the Han River Harriers were born on August 2003. A month later, the team had its first game against Seoul United, an African club, who were league champions the previous season. Much to everyone¡¯s surprise, the Harriers convincingly won the game 3-2. A new power had arrived.

Players on the team, approximately sixteen in all, hail from England, Canada, the United States, Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, Hong Kong and Korea. Manchester City Football Club provided the inspiration for the sky blue kit sported by the club.
