Born in Ireland to South-African parents, cellist Hanno Strydom received his formative training from Christopher Marwood, cellist of the Vanbrugh String Quartet. He continued his college level studies with leading American performer and pedagogue, Steven Doane, at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, USA, where his distinctions included being awarded the coveted Performer's Certificate, and winning the Eastman School Cello Concerto Competition in 2001. |

After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in 2001, Hanno chose to remain at Eastman, where he was appointed Teaching Assistant to Professor Doane for the 2001/02 and 2002/03 academic years, in addition to performing in the
Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as an Orchestral Studies Fellow. He graduated in May 2003, receiving both his Master of Music degree and Orchestral Studies Diploma. He gratefully acknowledges the generous grants awarded by the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholars Trust and the Fulbright Commission, which enabled
his studies at Eastman.
