| Alanis' parents met when they were kids in a playground. They married in the summer of 1967. Her mother is Hungarian, and has the maiden name of Fruerstein. Her father, Alan, is French-Candian. Both of them were highschool teachers. In her childhood, Alanis and her family moved to Germany for three years. Her father worked in the NATO base of Lahr. Alanis started writing songs when she was nine. Using the money she made while acting on "You Can't Do That on Television" in 1985, Alanis released her first single "Fate Stay With Me" at the age of 12, under an independant label, LAMOR RECORDS. The producer was Lindsay Morgan. LAMOR L=Lindsay A=Alanis MOR= MORissette and MORgan. This led to the 1991 self-titled release of "Alanis", a dance/pop-driven cd which sold around 100 000 copies in Canada. The follow-up cd to this was her 1992 released of "Now is the Time", in which Alanis was more involved in the writing process than her previous cd. In 1993, Alanis was in the movie "Just One of the Girls", in which she acted, danced, and sang. Allanis moved to Los Angeles after the release of her first two pop albums to find collaborators to help her with her music career. There she met Glen Ballard, who she now calls her "spiritual brother". They wrote some songs together and a tape was sent to Maverick which was composed of demo tracks for Jagged Little Pill. This album earned rave reviews across the globe and Alanis was arwarded with four Grammys for Jagged Little Pill. Alanis traveled to India, Cuba and Asia to take a much-needed break after the Jagged Little Pill tour When she came back, Alanis wrote "Univited" for the City of Angels soundtrack. The song won 2 Grammys Alanis released the highly-anticipated "Under Rug Swept" on February 26/02, which she produced and write entirely on her own ~Alanis was named when her father read the name in a Greek newspaper. He wanted it to be a feminine version of his own name, Alan. ~Alanis breifly dated Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey from Full House) in the early 90's and he's rumoured to be the subject in her hit song "You Oughta Know", although Alanis won't mention who the song is about. ~Alanis' boyfriend at the time, actor Dash Mihok, co-stars in Alanis' music video for So Pure. She met him while visiting Cuba in '98. ~She won the Global Tolerance award from the United Nations in December '01 for her humanitarian efforts ~Shortly after September 11th, "Ironic" was temporarily put on a list along with other songs to be banned from certain radio stations for it's line "and as the plane crashed down he thought, well isn't this nice?" ~Alanis is allergic to cats ~She can speak French ~Favorite music group- Soundgarden ~Alanis has written some of her songs in about 20 minutes ~Alanis plays the guitar, harmonica and flute in some of her songs.....but not all at the same time ;) ~Alanis' twin brother, Wade, is a yoga instructor who lives in British Columbia, Canada and is 12 minutes older than Alanis. ~Alanis was a straight A student and went to the same highschool as Tom Green. ~She has particiapted in several triathalons |
