Eleutherian Mills

Eleutherian Mills was named for its owner, Eleuthere Irenee du Pont, who acqured the 65 acre site in 1802 to build a black powder manufactory.  Today only the foundations of the mills in his first powder yard are visible, but the
du Pont family home which he built overlooking the works is known as Eleutherian Mills.
