Stammham is located approximately
90 km. East of Munich on the Inn River. This area of Bavaria is called
Niederbayern or lower Bavaria. The Catholic church is located
in the center of town. This area has been inhabited since Romans
used the city of Braunau, to the east 5 km in Austria, as a border town
in the Roman Empire. The church dates back to this time.
If one examines the wall construction around the alter on the east end
of the church, the stone is distinctly different. The rock
has been significantly weathered and is hand cut. The rest of the
church is equally old but was most likely constructed during the middle
ages. It is constructed of brick.
Traveling through the city of Stammham, locate
Haunreiter Strasse. Head east along this road to the outskirts of
Stammham. Several hundred yards further through open fields is the
village of Haunreit.
