With an average size of two to four feet, hammerheads can grow to be as long as thirteen feet. And it gives birth to live young unlike a lot of other sharks that lay eggs.
The hammerhead is easily noticed since it is one of the most unusual looking fish in the water. Unusual projections on both sides of the head give it the look of a flattened hammer. It's eyes and nostrils are on the side of the sharks head.
Hammerheads were in demand for use in fish meal, liver oil and leather products, during the days of major commercial shark hunting.
They usually don't show any aggressiveness and can even be getting spooked by divers very easy despite its size. Blue sharks are not considered to be a real threat to humans even though there have been some unofficial reports of attacks. These reports have usually been from people spear fishing.
It is believed that it feeds close to the bottom by its diet. The Hammerhead eats a wide variety of foods. Stingrays seem to be the hammerheads favorite food. One Hammerhead that was caught had ninety-six Stingray barbs stuck in its mouth and jaws. Some scientists think that the design of the hammerhead sharks' head holds down the stingray so it can eat it.
