| Now Im a fan of horror movies in general, and hold Halloween as a horror classic. But the latest sequel, Halloween: Resurrection is justnot good. The reason I dislike it is not because its ja duff movie, but because of what happens to the character of Laurie Strode. Many would agree she is the original scream queen and horror heroine. And I realise that as the rules of classic horror sequels go, no one is safe. But surely to just throw her character away, as in Resurrection, is just plain wrong. Any decent fans of the series, would agree that the whole Halloween saga came to a fit conclusion with Halloween: H20. After all the years of being terrorised and living in fear, the character of Laurie Strode decided enough was enough and finally stopped being afraid. She decided she would confront her demons, or demon, once and for all. In an emotional battle, she finally killed her brother Michael and stopped the nightmare forever. The Halloween saga had come full circle and Laurie finally had closure in her life and Michael Myers died the only way he could, and was meant to by his sisters hands. This is where the story should have ended. But no, consumed by a desire to squeeze every last cent of money from the franchise, producers decided to continue the franchise with Halloween: Resurrection. Now if the sequel had focused on a completely separate story, unconnected to Laurie Strode in any way, then I wouldnt have minded. In fact, if the opening to Resurrection was removed, Id have probably thought more of the movie It had an interesting and unique internet / on-line concept, and Ill admit, a few nice touches. But the awful opening monologue but me in a bad mood, and made me pick every single bad element of the movie. I felt let down. And by general consensus, movie audiences didnt like it either, as it performed badly compared to H20. Yep, it looks like were heading back to the direct to video days of Halloween again. But that still wont stop producers, as due to its initial low budget, the movies performed well as a business investment, making their money back. Plans are now afoot for another Halloween movie, details of which are unknown at this time. Overall, I know Im not alone in my views. Therefore, as a countermeasure to the Resurrection and its subsequent sequels, this page, in addition to reviewing the existing movies, is primarily devoted to virtual Halloween movies and fan fiction in The Beyond The Movies section. There are two stories, penned by mysellf, set after Resurrection where Lauries Strode survives. One uses the classic 'Dallas' scenario treating Resurrection like a bad dream, the other (more better story), has Laurie actually survive her fall and comeback for a final battle... Youll also find other fan written stories, unconnected to the character of Laurie Strode, focusing on a new bunch of teenagers, along with spin-offs/crossovers stories, bringing in other famous horror characters, such as The Candyman and Freddy Kruger.... |
