GBS in Rochester 2004
The clearing of the stage was the apex of the growing excitement of Sue, Sam and Art. Sue was fairly jumping up and down with excitement and anticipation and was giddy just thinking that GBS would be in front of her at any moment. I can honestly say I really enjoyed being sandwiched in-between GBS virgins tonight. I experienced the show in a whole different way.
I took of photo of the empty stage right before the b'ys bounded out.  Here it is
The bys came out bouncing and went right into Beat the Drum. It was a different kind of show for me. I was not there to see the bys as much as I was there to listen. I dont know whether its the fairly high number of shows I have seen  that made me look at it from another angle, or some other reason, but I felt compelled tonight to really listen to the harmonies and the bass lines and the little extra things on instruments they do to fill out the sound we know and love so well. It was fun to watch who was singing and playing what part. I love the young and daring counter-harmony at the end of this song. I wasn't sure who I heard on the CD. Bob and Murray did a good job with it.

Being a singer I appreciate the intricacies of good harmonies and harmonies among instrumental parts. Both were evident tonight and a pleasure to listen to. But even more evident was the enjoyment of the people around me who were experiencing GBS for the first time. It was just so much fun to watch them enjoying the show.

Donkey Ridings fiddle part was much appreciated tonight. When it was the intro song, many times we were too busy screaming hello to notice it much. Its one of a couple tunes I can play at Bob-speed and I enjoyed watching him a lot.

All of them were dancing up and storm tonight and although there wasnt too much stage banter, there was plenty of among-band chatting all thru the show. Part of it may have been sound related. And part audience-antics related. There were several times during the night San and Bob looked like they were trying to get things changed, sound-wise. San had his holey pants on and Bob was wearing jeans again. I think Ive seen him in jeans more times in the past month than in the past two years.

Bob's sleeves reminded me of my kids in school who don't want to wear their uniform shirt - unbuttoned and ready to roll up.
