GBS at Irving Plaza 2004
Helmethead was a scream. The bys were trying their darnedest to get Bob to mess up. San came up behind him doing God-knows-what and Alan sidled up to him with a wicked grin and poked Bobs underarms with the pegs on his guitar. When that didnt get the desired result, he proceeded to tickle him. It looked like San was tickling him from the back in the meantime. Bob was grinning and trying to keep his cool. At one point he turned and stared wide-eyed at the mischief-makers. LOL! He couldnt sing! Then he turned his face to the mic and went right back into the song. And laughed!!!!!1   The hockey player wasnt calling from the station, but the airport. I really enjoy watching Bob sing this. He makes faces and gestures and really PERFORMS. The audience just went wild for the song. The cheers and applause after it went on for a good long while. Go Bob!
John Barbour has turned out to be one of my all-time favorite San songs. Its good on the CD and a million times better live. The crowd had a hard time getting settled at the beginning of it, just coming off the raucous Helmethead, but this crowd seemed okay with it. I wonder how it is being received elsewhere? I hope it stays in the setlist for a good long time.
