Thursday in the Square
GBS's Operetta
A little shameless self-promotion went on next for the new album, The Hard and the Easy, due out in October. Alan explained the next song was not a sailing song, like you might expect, but it came from Central Newfoundland and was about the way the people there made their living in the winter in Newfoundland logging. I knew exactly what song it was going to be but I had hoped for Tickle Cove Pond, which is also about hauling wood. It was the new one we heard the other night called River Driver. Absolutely going to be a sing-along once people get to know the words. The chorus is extremely easy to remember. In fact, Ive had it going through my head for the past four days. There were quite a few people singing along by the end and they bys looked proud. Their harmonies were nothing short of delicious, if I say so myself.
"I'll eat when I am hungry,
I'll drink when I am dry,
Get drunk whenever I'm ready
and get sober by and by;
And if the river don't drown me, when I go out to roam,
For I'm a river driver and
I'm far away from home."
"I'll build my love a castle upon some mountain high,
Where she can sit there and view me as I go riding by;
Where she can sit there and view me
when I go out to roam,
For I'm a river driver and I'm far away from home."
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your golden hair"
Seans coming out tonight, Alan stated casually as an intro to the next song.  It was Paddy Murphy - the Buffalo girls got loaded drunk tonight. Great fun, with the crowd singing along. Bob was happy playing accordion for this!
