Loline III 303-FCP303E. Northern Counties. Described by Mr.Hilditch, the GM,as the "Best engineered bus in Britain". Worked on contract hire, (South Yorkshire to a Halifax factory), they were extremely fast on the motorway. Thereafter intended for use on the Calder Valley routes following the merger with Todmorden, but the low garage height prevented use and they were sold after only a few years. Photo by Neil Halliday.
One of a 1963 class of Nimbus with Weymann bodywork bought for the rural routes. They were NOISY as well as fraught with mechanical problems and didn't last too long before being replaced with 7'6" wide Reliances. This one was Sold to Ramsbottom and then transferred to SELNEC Northern
The Daimle Fleetline demonstrater 565CRW when on lone to Halifax. Mr.Hilditch also tried an Arab IV with Strachen bodywork around the same time, but the Fleetline won the day and resulted in orders from the Corporation.
Crossfield Bus Station, built on a slum area of the same name. Great Albion street on the right formed the boundry. To the right of that was the slum clearance of the "City" which was intended for expansion of the bus station but never materialised. So busy at times that people were queued down the steps into Broad Steet to the left, waiting to move to their bus stands!!!!  Hard to believe that nowadays. St. James Road runs along the top and is the entrance road on which most buses arrived
Halifax Regent V-MCW. Both Halifax and Hebble had problems with the bodywork on these types. This one though was still well enough maintained to find service elsewhere and a well turned out vehicle they have made of it. OK Services of County Durham..
