Each
month we will take a look back at former
Halesowen players who were only at the Grove for
a year or less. This month we start with
wing-back Ashley Brown.
Brown was 21 when he joined the club in July
1999. John Chambers, manager of Halesowen at the
time signed the wing-back from Gresley Rovers.
Gresley had just been relegated after an awful
start to 1999 which saw them fall from title
contenders in November to being relegated on the
last day of the season. Brown did not come alone
from the Moat as Lyndon Rowlands joined him at
The Grove.
Ash made his debut for Halesowen on the 14th
August 1999 in a Dr Martens Premier League game
against Dorchester Town at The Grove, the Yeltz
were defeated 1-0. Brown's first victory in a
Yeltz shirtcame ten days later when Halesowen
triumphed 2-1 at home to Grantham with goals
coming from Lyndon Rowlnads and a late winner
from Robbie Dennison.
His only goals for Halesowen came at Atherstone
in a 5-4 victory in September 1999.
Brown left the club in the summer of 2000 to join
Shepshed and with it a void at right-back one
that was not filled properly until the arrival of
Richard Colwell over twelve months later.
