WELCOME to the genealogical site of the Scanian Haggman family |

| The genealogical roots of the Haggman family of Scania are obscure, and the family lore correspondingly speculative. Since 2001, when my sister and myself first were engaged in what appears to have become a lifelong quest to explore and map out our family roots, we have encountered rumours ranging from conceivable to ludicrous, whispers and outright assertions of Hanseatic League merchants, Lutheran missionaries and royal blood ties. However fascinating such tales may be, so far it is the actual process of family tree creation, the construction of branches from individuals brought to life from telephone directories and old records, that has captivated me most. All geneological information made public on these pages has either been found or double-checked by me in the church records. Should you find any incongruencies, please contact me and let me know! Should you find genealogical information of interest to you on this site, and should you wish to incorporate it into your own research or publish it, I trust it that you will possess the personal integrity and honesty to GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE by referring or linking to this page. The Haggman family tree project is the result of many hours spent in dusty archives on fine summer days, on the telephone asking complete strangers if we were by any chance related, and in front of computers in the spare time that I did not possess. To set an example, I will mention that the creation of this page had not been likely without the co-operation, encouragement and meticulous work of my industrious sister, Lena Nilsson. The works Kallenberg frn Bronnestad (1908) by Vilhelm Ljungfors and Landsstaten i Malmohus och Kristianstads lan 1719-1917 by Otto Lindberg (1917) have been a great help. A number of Haggman descendants have been kind enough to listen to me and share their memories and old photographs. One of them was even in possession of a family book compiled by his grandfather, Walter Haggman, which he was kind enough to share with us. It followed our line as far back as the two books mentioned above. The staff at Malmo Stadsarkiv and Landsarkivet in Lund have been and continue to be quite helpful (and patient!). So have various members and users of Malmo Slaktforskarforening, the SCANGEN mailing list, DIS and ROTTER. |
